Thanks for that, im thinking of either US infantry or British infantry whichever is cheapest but the US would tie in with some modern stuff i already have and my future vietnam kit but i plan to do both at some point.

I thought Brit due to having most of what I need already and the rest being very cheap. The problem is the gun, I can't really justify £300+ for an SLR for one game. Rusky stuff is also pretty cheap and so are AKs. If it was set a bit earlier I could get away with WW2 Soviet but 87 would be pushing it abit. I also have a G33 so German border guard could be a possible 3rd option. B'ah! I hate making decisions.... :slap:

Gadge, if you can fix a date asap and I am in as Brit (but I can't do around 4th Oct). Unfortunately, i only have Soldier 95 DPM, is that OK coz getting the 80s issue might be difficult. I hope the consensus is that SA80 A1s are ok in addition to L1A1 (brens), SLRs and if anyone has an airsoft sterling? If so I am good to go, just need to re-appropriate some 58 pat webbing.

I also have a minimi para if some lucky yanks wants to carry it around (it weighs a lot!)

Fingers crossed this happens!

But the NK6 Helmet replaced the MK5 in the 80's which is the era your doing right ? im afraid il also have to use soldier 95's and the SA80 is definatly 1980's aswell right ?

Ashes to Ashes had a load of good 1981 references for British uniforms last night.

The silly coppers managed to infiltrate an army base... lol

Sterlings and MkIV helmets... loads of officers in service dress with sam brownes...

No idea on the accuracy for the period, but it looked fun!

Ashes to Ashes is set in 1981/2 i think so MK5's would have been used the MK6 Replaced the MK5 in 1988 i think.

Basically i think if we're lookng at 87 as a goal

we can say guys playing with sa80 and mark 6 represent front line inf units and if you're using tin lids you're mobilised TA or support staff etc.

Same as the idea to use woodland for us regular army and olive drab for their national guard units.

Johnsons of Leeds do cheap MK6s for about a tenner . Best if you can go and fish one out of the bins yourself, and you will need to pick up a cover off Ebay.

Better off with an SLR than an '80 ....my chum from 2 Para was still on SLR when he left in 1992 ....

If anyone gets a cheap mk6 i've three or four covers i'm happy ot give away , they are a bit worn mainly the foliage elastics are not tight anymore.

But free to anyone who gets a new mk6 and needs one, i only use them as bags for mess tins and tent poles to muffle the sound in webbing.

Hi, I did my armourer training in 1986 on SLR, Sterling, L4A2 (Bren), SA80A1, L86 LSW and the SA80 tankers carbine as they were rolling them out then. We got them in unit by the end of 1986 but I was only in HQ REME TA so it was probably an easy changeover to be done, hence get it over with first.

I appreciate SLR looks the part but I can't buy another airsoft gun! (well apart from saving up for a bren that is).

Just found an online resource http://www.forces80.com .

There are a few areas I would argue, like the use of putees. I guess the period was a bit dolly mixtures for kit as I got 85 combats, lightweights, combat highs, 58 webbing, SLR then SA80, etc but we used trouser twists not putees. We got old OG NMB suits and S6 respirators. I got given a set of full zip DPM NBC for training use around 1987 which was not common issue (and not unit issue)!

Guess it depended on where you were and what unit.

Oh go on then - let's see a couple of pics, was nice to get my hands on the L1A1 pre-game TEHL

note to self - stop thinking of buying a whole loadout based on the 1 or 2 items you currently have spare.

Good new's 2 non WW2 loadout's, will be completed soon - just waiting for delivery of 2 pairs of boot's for 'NAM
